Event: Officer Saves Child Choking

Officers on patrol were made aware of a rescue call at McDonald’s in reference to a 1 year old child choking. Officer Stephanie Sumpter arrived in less than a minute and was met with a chaotic scene. Several women ran out of the restaurant, one of them holding the limp body of a child in her arms.

Officer Sumpter took the child and noted that she was not breathing, her lips had turned grey and her face was ashen. Officer Sumpter immediately began life saving measures and after several attempts she was able to resuscitate the child enabling her to breathe on her own again. The child was then transferred to a medic where she was transported to Southampton Memorial Hospital for evaluation. The child was later released to her guardians.
